November 8, 2020 / Source: The Bizz USA By Haarika Kalahasti; Edited by Adya Kumar Although COVID-19 has negatively impacted many small businesses, individuals have begun to step up to promote change. Another organization that emerged during this pandemic is SF Writing Program. The SF Writing program is a free fiction writing program that has easy to follow instructions and activities for aspiring writers. The SF Writing program also includes activities, worksheets, and things to keep in mind while writing. It was founded in the summer of 2020 by Sarah Frank, a high school senior and author of a couple of books from Florida. As a child, Sarah was an avid reader and loved to write. She currently has published two books--Once Chance in 2018 and Two Secrets in 2019. Through her experience in writing, she’s learned a lot about the process and the fact she can “create her own adventure”. She hopes that through the SF Writing Program, she can be the person she wished she had to help other aspiring writers! The program specifically targets aspiring writers from grades 3 to 12. It is free and self-paced, meaning participants can pick and choose the topics they want to read about and do it at their own convenience. What differentiates SF Writing Program from other writing programs is the fact that Sarah Frank (the founder) has experience with the writing, editing, and publishing process. It’s also student-run, making it easier to understand and resonate with the designated target market. According to Sarah, the program has been praised for its simplicity, self-paced nature, and of course, the fact that it is free. SF Writing Program currently has three main courses: Creating your characters, building your plot, and striking your balance. The first course focuses on character development and dialogue, the second focuses on planning plots and subplots, and the third course focuses on everything else important for fictitious writing. Each course contains chapters and subsections with lots of interactive activities, notes, and advice. To sign up for a course, go to https://sfwriting.thinkific.com/ and click the sign-up tab to enroll! It’s truly inspiring to see the leaders of Gen Z, like Sarah Frank, use their voices to help others! When asked how it felt to start her own business, Sarah said, “It’s gratifying, a little stressful, but mostly positive to know that I am making an impact. A lot of people are free during this time and so I think they have a bit more time on their plates to get involved. I hope that this program is kind of a gift I can give to others.” It’s amazing that Frank spends her free time helping others with their writing and being the advisor she once needed, for others. . Sarah has three main pieces of advice to aspiring young business owners and entrepreneurs: “make time, remember why you started, and think about where it’s headed”. These three points, right here, are keys to having a successful business. In the future, Sarah definitely plans to continue the SF Writing program and expand it as much as she possibly can, having the greatest impact on aspiring writers. The teen writer also hopes to continue writing and wants to be a writer when she grows up. “If I can write forever, I will be completely content,” Sarah said. Her passion and ability to take charge in the community is something the world needs a bit more of, and it’s truly inspiring to see young leaders, like Sarah Frank take charge!
