May 30, 2021 / Source: The Bizz USA By Haarika Kalahasti; Edited by Adya Kumar Although COVID-19 has negatively impacted many small businesses, individuals have begun to step up to promote change. Another inspirational organization that emerged during this pandemic is Future Destination. Future Destination is a youth-led organization that aims to help US and International high school students find their paths based on their career goals by providing various resources and opportunities available. Acting as a hub of resources for high school students, they find opportunities ranging from scholarships, summer programs, internships, competitions, webinars, and more. The resourceful organization was founded by high school sophomore Katie Phan who first handedly observed the difficulty of finding opportunities to gain experience in various fields. Because of this strong need for her and others across the world, she, along with co-founders Sarah Park, Afua Siaw, and Alejandra Mendez, created Future Destination in August of 2020. In the future, Katie hopes that Future Destination can one day register as an official nonprofit to reach more people and have a greater impact on high school students. Future Destination has a dedicated team that surfs the web for the best career-related opportunities out there. They actively gather the opportunities and promote them on their website and Instagram so others can take hold of them! Some of these opportunities include pre-college programs, team applications for other organizations, college or career readiness webinars, and essay scholarships. In addition to promoting opportunities, they also do youth takeovers and organization spotlights. The youth takeovers are usually done by college students or professionals who provide advice and give an insight into their own journeys, which gives high school students more clarity as to what life after high school looks like. If you are a college student or an adult wanting to help kids explore their passion, consider doing the youth takeover! Visit the “contact” tab on their website for the link! The organization spotlights help promote youth organizations to make high school students aware of the various opportunities they could get involved with. For instance, an organization featured in their spotlight might be looking for new team members and offer service hours! Students interested in the specific topics or a career could get the opportunity to explore the organization’s page and get involved. If you are a part of an organization and are interested in getting featured on their page, contact them via their Instagram! Interested and want to get involved? Unfortunately, their team applications are closed. If you want information on when they will open again and with what available positions, please contact them directly on Instagram or leave an inquiry on their website. What sets Future Destination apart from other youth-led organizations and opportunity sites is their accessibility and ease at which one can browse their resources. Future Destination conveniently provides all of the opportunities, which are available for different fields, on their website and Instagram. They also offer resources for international students as well, making it a global resource! The Bizz USA recommends that you check out Future Destination and get involved! Their passion for helping students across the globe find their path is something the world needs a bit more of, and it’s impressive to see young leaders like Katie Phan and the co-founders make a difference. It’s great seeing positive feedback from our audience as well as people we know. We’re just super grateful it’s helping people everywhere! My biggest challenge has been juggling between running Future Destination, school, and extracurriculars. It’s been tough, but we’ve made it thus far and will continue doing what we’re doing in the future too!” A (S): “It’s definitely been worth going through these challenges and hurdles to see your growth and impact on the world in the end. ” Q (H): “If you had to give advice to aspiring, young entrepreneurs, and business owners, what advice would you give?” A (S): “Don’t get discouraged and keep trying.” A (K): “” Be consistent in posting and don’t stop trying. When we first started posting, we didn’t have as many followers. But we started posting consistently, like every week, and within five months of starting, we reached our follower goal. So, don’t give up that easily--you will reach your goal one day!”
