April 25, 2021 / Source: The Bizz USA By Malita Zara Ali ; Edited by Adya Kumar If you haven’t heard about the upcoming “Pink Moon” on Tuesday, April 27th 2021, you have so much magic to look forward to. According to astrologists, the full Scorpio moon is a lunar phase that will be visible after sunset and reach a peak illumination 11:33pm EDT. It earned its name from its reappearance of the wild ground phlox flowers with their pink petal and is the closest to the perigee, which makes the full moon appear up to 7% larger and 15% brighter than a typical moon. The Pink Moon has a similar origin to the “Worm Moon”. Native American tribes believe the April full moon is associated with the busting life and vibrant growth of spring, hence they endow the full moon with different names, such as the Sprouting moon, Flower Moon, Fish moon and so forth. In Sioux culture, the moons are named after the Sprouting of the red grass. The Cherokee tribe calls it the “Flowering moon” to celebrate the medicinal plants and magical herbs. They also call it the Fish moon, because the fish would begin to swim upstream and they believe that flowing water is under control of a spirit called “The Long Man”. So they would perform rituals to honor him during the pink full moon. At first, the moon will appear orange when rising due to its low level in the sky being seen through the thickness of the earth’s atmosphere. Earth's oxygen and nitrogen-rich atmosphere filters out the bluer wavelengths of white moonlight when the Moon is close to the horizon as it rises. This filtering process, known as light refraction, results in more of the red shade as seen through the eye, but the moon will only turn pink during a total lunar eclipse, which is often known as a blood moon. The Pink Moon represents optimism for the future anticipation of goals and dreams coming to fruition, and signification of rebirth and renewal. It serves as a reminder that life is a set of ups and downs, a cycle of hibernation and reawakening. According to Cherokee Billie, a renowned spiritualist, the pink moon “brings the stability and security to crystallize recent changes and make them permanent improvements”. The intentions you set on a new moon always develop throughout the course of the waxing moon phase, until your desires blossom completely on the full moon. The Pink Moon phenomenon continues into May where another full moon occurs called “ The Flowering Moon”, also known as a red moon. So, let us look forward to this coming pink moon and watch our new beginnings come to life!
